Don’t Let Anyone Tell You That You Can’t Do It!
No CommentsHave you ever heard someone say; “If I only had a dollar for every time someone told me I couldn’t do something, I’d be a very wealthy individual!” Well, I was considering this the other day after someone told me that not everyone has the talents that I do and thus, they cannot do what I’ve done? And many people are beaten down because no one believes in them or encourages them to forge ahead and tackle their dreams.
Sometimes I remember this old quote, yes, like you perhaps my grandfather use to say that, and yes, I have heard people tell me many times in my past that I could not do this, that or the other thing. Guess what they were wrong and I am right when I tell you that you can do anything you put your mind too and are willing to persevere in. From experience, I remember back when folks told me I was not good enough.
For instance, when I was young I was too short to be taken seriously when I started washing aircraft at 12-years old at the local airport to earn money, I refused to give up, within a couple of years I had a thriving business making more than most of my friends fathers. When I went to HS, I was still too short and the coach did not consider me to be worthy as a runner. I made varsity my freshman year in the first season of sports. When Track Season came the stronger Juniors and Seniors felt they could beat me, they were wrong too. By the end of the season I was posting times better than they were.
As my business got bigger, I looked too young to be in business, I had to work harder than everyone else and I did, eventually our company beat all the competition. When the economy tanked everyone was complaining that my business was through, I accelerated, worked harder and was the last one standing with all the business, which was left.
When I was in college they said that 15 credits was too many classes, I took 18 and told the Dean of Instruction that unless he let me take another class, I would not run track for them, I took 21 and then signed up for night school at a second college making it 33 credits total and set the state record for the most classes in one semester.
During college, I ran track and they said I could not run a 4-minute mile, I did in spite, to prove to myself that nothing can stop me. In business I wanted to franchise my company, everyone said it couldn’t be done. The SCORE and ACE consultants, said that my goals were far too high. Within 8-years I had not only franchised my business, but our company had franchisees in 23 states, 110 markets and four countries with 187 franchisees serving 450 cities.
I’ve been told it is impossible to go to every city in the US over 10,000 in population, done. I was told that riding my bike across America was crazy, done. They said it was impossible to write 10,000 online articles, this article is number 13,850 and I bet I hit 14,000 by the end of next month. They are telling me now that writing 100 eBooks is impossible, well 10 down 90 to go, and if anyone doubts me now, then they are the fools not I.
Indeed, nothing is impossible. It never was, too many people have surrendered their dreams because of naysayers and others who claim it cannot be done. Well, in observation it appears that people think a lot of themselves, and they have set limits in their own lives. “If you believe you can’t then you are right!” and if they think they can’t indeed, they are right. Since they believe they are great and know they can’t they believe that you can’t possibly do what they won’t thus, they tell you that you can’t.
But guess what? If I can do it, anyone can. I know you can do it, because I did. You can do anything you put your mind to. Forget the naysayers and Press On!
