Using Positive Imagery Effectively
Have you ever heard of positive imagery? A lot of people use positive imagery to help motivate themselves to do well in any situation, no matter what they are going through or how unmotivated they feel. You can use this sort of imagery when you are at work, at home, or just about in any situation. The idea is to picture yourself, your surroundings, and the way that you will react and respond to certain things in a positive manner. For instance, if you are having a bad day and you want to just run away you can picture yourself in a calm and soothing environment, allowing for those sensations to take over the negative ones.
Positive Imagery and You
There are a lot of people who use positive imagery, though this may be something new to you. A lot of athletes are trained to use this sort of imagery to help them success in their sport of choice. For instance, a lot of pitchers in baseball use imagery to help visualize what throwing a strike would look like. If you can envision it and really see yourself throwing that strike, you can make it happen in reality as well. Positive imagery really is very powerful for a lot of athletes, but it is not just for those in sports.
A lot of professionals use this sort of imagery because it allows for them to get focused and confident about something that they are doing. For instance, a lot of people use imagery before they have to get up in front of a group of people. When you aren’t all that comfortable giving a presentation or talking to the higher ups in your company, you can take a quiet moment before the meeting and visualize yourself giving the presentation. When you visualize it, you need to see yourself as calm and focused and being a complete success. When you do this, you are creating a self-fulfilling prophecy, giving yourself permission to do well despite your nerves!
Many people use an image of a place that they love to go to help them with positive imagery. For instance, a lot of women in childbirth use a picture that they concentrate on and they see themselves there, instead of going through the pains of childbirth. When they do this, they are able to release a lot of the pain and tension that they were feeling as they feel themselves go to that “happy place”. Luckily, this doesn’t just work when you are in labor!
A great way to always have a vision that you can “go to” is to download free desktop wallpapers to your computer. When you do this, your desktop background can be a beautiful scene that you can use to escape when you are having a bad day or simply need to release some negative energy. Many people find that free desktop wallpapers are a great way to escape stress at work as well as at home. Many of them not only have beautiful images that can help with positive imagery, but also have moving sayings that can help remind you that this too shall pass.
